The Leisure Seeker

"Their picaresque journey, punctuated by campside evenings spent looking through slides of their past life, is going only one way - but these are outstanding performances, embracing age, by Sutherland and Mirren." - London Evening Standard

John (Donald Sutherland) and Ella (Helen Mirren) are an elderly couple dealing with elderly couples’ problems. Married for fifty years, they’re looking down the barrel of Alzheimer’s and cancer, respectively, and they're desperate to live a little, one last time. When the constant attention of their caregivers and children gets too much, they hop in their vintage Winnebago and set off on an adventure across America, aiming to reach the Florida Keys - and themselves.

Based on the novel by Michael Zadoorian, 'The Leisure Seeker' is the English-language debut from celebrated Italian director Paolo Virzì. Beloved acting luminaries Mirren and Sutherland deliver performances as funny as they are touching, exploring age with truth and dignity.

Deftly telling a comedic story about a difficult subject, 'The Leisure Seeker' is a triumphant road movie about love, death, and memory. A look at the struggles and joys of aging, it’s as charming and intimate as the camper for which it’s named. - Alamo Drafthouse
