The Odeon Gallery - Downstairs at the Princess Twin
During the months of July and August 2015, the Odeon Gallery will be featuring the art of Herman Hueckel.
Herman Hueckel grew up in the Czech Republic where his family was well known for their famous hat factory, the “Hueckel Hat Factory”. The history of the Hueckel family has been documented and can be found in the museum at Novy Jicin. The Nazis seized the family business in 1938 and the children were moved to the safety of the Bavarian country-side.
Herman emigrated to Ottawa in 1952 with his father and brother to start a new life. Herman was trained as a commercial artist but always enjoyed expressing himself in his own work.
Herman raised his family in Collingwood where he still lives today. Now in his retired years he enjoys indulging in his passion of painting. His technique of using foil as his medium started back in 1985 and continues today.
