Heavy Metal - 40th Anniversary

40th Anniversary screening. Inspired by the scifi/fantasy magazine, classic rock soundtrack, voiced by SCTV alumni

"A step beyond science fiction..." Canadian headbangers in the early 80s dug the rocking soundtrack, the hilariously familiar SCTV-voices and all those comely visions of Amazons getting sexy with dorky robots. Yep, there's a lot of male gaze going on, but what a head-trip this movie was, and we're bringing it back. Big screen, big sound!

Based on the science fiction cult comic, HEAVY METAL combines extraordinarily stunning visuals, awesome soundtrack and a series of mind-bending stories in a unique motion picture experience. The anchor of the film is an eerie green ball that magically transports us into a series of adventures in the past, future, and the world beyond. The film’s characters and stories include: the space super heroine Taarna; the hard-boiled exploits of Harry Canyon, cab driver of the future; and the adventures of "Den,” who the green ball changes from an introverted teen into a macho hero. This groundbreaking animation extravaganza also use the voices of John Candy, Harold Ramis, Eugene Levy and Joe Flaherty, as well as writers, directors, and artists from around the world—and sports a wild soundtrack featuring artists Blue Öyster Cult, Devo, Cheap Trick, and Black Sabbath.
