Inclusion Film Series Presents:The Punk Syndrome

An event hosted by Bridges to Belonging, and with thanks to our Presenting Sponsor, Menno S Martin Contractor Ltd.

"Like many other punk rockers, Pertti Kurikka, Kari Aalto, Sami Helle, and Toni Valitalo hearken to the sounds of punk’s glory days (Ramones, Sex Pistols, etc.). Ranging in age from 20s to 50s, they play guitar, drums, and bass and sing. They wear leather jackets, drink beer, smoke cigarettes, and generally make a racket. Unlike many other punk rockers, they’re all developmentally disabled – which, in the context of four people trying to collectively write, record, and play live music together, creates a consistently engaging, often hilarious, and frequently inspiring documentary.

As it follows Pertti Kurikan Nimipaivat in gritty, intimate fashion from early rehearsals to cult success, The Punk Syndrome likewise focuses on illuminating disabled peoples’ need for independence and creative outlets, while incisively portraying the complicated bond among the four members."

Please note that this film is presented in Finnish with English subtitles, and includes mature language and themes.
