Suspiria (1977)

An American newcomer to a prestigious German ballet academy comes to realize that the school is a front for something sinister amid a series of grisly murders.

The only thing more terrifying than the last 12 minutes of this film are the first 92.

From a new 4k restoration. Suzy (Jessica Harper) travels to Germany to attend ballet school. When she arrives, late on a stormy night, no one lets her in, and she sees Pat (Eva Axén), another student, fleeing from the school. When Pat reaches her apartment, she is murdered. The next day, Suzy is admitted to her new school, but has a difficult time settling in. She hears noises, and often feels ill. As more people die, Suzy uncovers the terrifying secret history of the place.

"Regardless of the sequels, remakes, homages and ripoffs, “Suspiria” remains a truly one-of-a-kind cinematic experience. For horror fans, it is one of those touchstone titles whose significance has been passed down from generation to generation." - RogerEbert.com

"The lore, the world, the feeling one gets from watching this film—reds, blues, yellows, flashing in their eyes while screams and wails screech from the soundtrack—is enough to make the skin crawl. This is what good horror can do." - FilmDaze.net

"Argento's masterful use of deep primary colours — the sets are bathed in garish red and green light (he acquired 1950s Technicolor stock to get the effect) gives the whole film a hallucinatory intensity." - Empire
