Digital Disconnect - Canadian Sovereignty in the Internet Age

FREE event. Presented by Friends of Canadian Broadcasting. What is the impact of the Internet on Canada’s media sector, politics, and democracy? And what does that mean for the upcoming federal election in October 2019? Join us for a free documentary screening and panel discussion with Bianca Wylie, Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and Co-Founder of Tech Reset Canada, in conversation with FRIENDS Executive Director Daniel Bernhard.

Digital Disconnect is a documentary film that explores the crucial question of whether the connective potential of social media outweighs the damage it inflicts on our minds, our families, our society, and our democracy.

The film will be followed by a discussion about the crisis facing Canadian media, the impact of unregulated Tech Firms on our virtual and physical spaces, and the impact of social media platforms on Canadian democracy. How will these issues affect the federal election in October 2019, and what can Canadians do about it?
