Calling all artists, designers, architects and everyone else, starting on Monday we're kicking off our new Art, Design & Architecture series! Every Monday for the remainder of September and October we're featuring documentaries from close to home and around the world that shed light on the creatives who make the world a better place.
On Monday we're kicking off the series with Design Canada, a documentary that explores what defines a national identity. Is it an anthem, flag, logo or icon? How do these elements shape who we are? In the 60s and 70s, these questions were answered by an innovative group of Canadian designers who used design to unify the nation. See more showtimes and films in this series on our website.
This weekend, we have plenty of intriguing, empowering and informative documentaries on-tap, including Free Trip To Egypt which opens Friday. The concept of this film is so heartfel.. "Reaching out to the very people who fear him, a Muslim man travels to the United States and offers a diverse group of Americans a free trip to Egypt."
Also this weekend in the documentart department we have an iconic screening of a trail-blazing woman, Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché. This film digs into the long-forgotten legeacy of the first-ever female film director. Opera fans, don't miss our screenings this weekend of the Ron Howard directed documentary, Pavarotti! Plus jazz fans have a new doc to dig into next week with the opening of Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool.
You asked, we answered! There was high demand from our customers for this documentary and we've finally gotten our hands on it! Thursday of next week we're opening Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am. Plus, this weekend and next week we're continuing screenings of films like Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and the art series, Exhibition on Screen: Rembrandt.
