The show must go on! The Original won't go down without a fight. Stay tuned as we organize to keep 6 Princess St. W. a cinema for the community. Volunteers will be needed! Ideas welcome. If you haven't heard the news, it is this: the Princess Original, one of Canada's longest-running arthouse venues and a cultural hub for Waterloo Region, has been given sudden and unexpected notice to vacate 6 Princess St. W, effective June 1. A venture capitalist-funded, virtual reality firm plans to kick us out, by offering the Huether Hotel double the market rent we pay now. We are devastated and so is the community. This is nothing less than the senseless destruction of a 34-year old, successful arts and culture venue; also, consider the architectural damage and loss that will occur when the theatre auditorium is converted into VR rooms. Help us NOT let this needless cultural destruction happen. More details soon.

Meanwhile, if you love the Original, keep coming to see movies there. We hope it won't be the case, but these may be its last weeks. We have many wonderful films on offer for you to escape from (and perhaps reflect upon) this mad, mad world. Have a wonderful Easter. We will be open for matinees all weekend, including Good Friday and Easter Monday.
