A new film from Richard Linklater (Boyhood) is always reason to celebrate. This Friday we have the KW premiere of his latest film, a Cate Blanchett-starring adaptation of the best-selling novel, Where'd You Go, Bernadette? Aug 16 marks the 42nd anniversary of Elvis' death (at 42) and we will be marking this occasion with his first (& best) concert film, followed the next night by the cult classic, Bubba Ho-Tep, starring Evil Dead's Bruce Campbell as an Elvis impersonator in a nursing home who takes on a soul-sucking mummy. The King is dead; long live the King. Thank-you very much! Crawl, one of the year's best reviewed horror films, starts at the Twin on Friday, and the new, multiple award-winning documentary, Honeyland, comes to the Original for four shows only. This is one for the big screen! We finish up the booking week with a 50th anniversary screening of Midnight Cowboy, the only X-rated film to win the Best Picture Oscar. Of course, by today's standards, it would be rated 14A!

"Extraordinary on every level, Lulu Wang's The Farewell starring an award-caliber Awkwafina builds a funny, touching and vital film about what makes a family in any culture, leaving you with cathartic tears." - Rolling Stone

“‘Based on an actual lie’ is writer-director Lulu Wang’s way of introducing her (actually true) story; a sly title card to qualify the bittersweet dramedy of deception that follows.

"The definitive portrait of Elvis the Vegas headliner follows the King through his 1970 summer engagement in Las Vegas from backstage bustle to box-office hustle to 27 stage numbers." - msn.com

Elvis Presley died 42 years ago, on Aug 16, 1977 at the age of 42. We remember him on this date with a theatrical presentation of one of his best concert films. This was his first non-dramatic film, made shortly after his return to live performances, and here he is at his best, both vocally and physically. Share the songs and the memories on the big screen!

"Insidiously simple, compact, and clever, this killer alligator movie, complete with slowly rising floodwaters, is relentless and absolutely terrifying. It's a career best for director Alexandre Aja." - Film School Rejects

"If you want to feel joy, head straight to Yesterday. It’s a heartfelt and humorous tale from Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) and screenwriter Richard Curtis (Love, Actually) about a struggling musician (Himesh Patel) who wakes up in an alternate reality where he’s the only person aware the Beatles ever existed.

"The remarkable thing about Wadleigh's film is that it succeeds so completely in making us feel how it must have been to be there." - Roger Ebert

Fifty years ago, on Aug. 15, 1969, over a million young people descended on Max Yasgur’s farm in Woodstock, New York for 3 days of peace, love and music. What was meant to be a simple concert became the defining event of a generation—and an everlasting symbol of the power of the collective human spirit.
