Rising star Awkwafina proves she's more than just a comedian in this touching story of a large Chinese family that prepares to say good-bye to their beloved grandmother. Critics and audiences are raving about how good this movie is. See for yourself starting this Friday at the Twin!

For those who came out to our screenings of The Neverending Story, we have winners for the Stratford Festival Grand Prize packs. Congratulations to David Santiago Cano and Amber Meulenbelt, and thanks to the wonderful Stratford Festival! Summer isn't complete without at least one visit to this cultural treasure.

Also new this week are MAIDEN, VITA & VIRGINIA and PARIS IS BURNING (theatrical re-release, which we first premiered at the Original in 1990). We have bring backs of FINDING JOHN LINGWOOD, ERASERHEAD (David Lynch cult classic!) and MARIANNE & LEONARD moves to the Twin!

Thanks to a generous donation from a long-time Princess patron, we now offer Dolby® CaptiView at the Princess Twin. Dolby® CaptiView is a personal in-theatre closed captioning system for hearing-impaired movie patrons. We have two of these devices, which we offer free of charge on a first-come first-served basis (unfortunately, we cannot reserve them). Simply request one at the snack bar when you are at the Twin. They work with most of the films we show.

"Extraordinary on every level, Lulu Wang's The Farewell starring an award-caliber Awkwafina builds a funny, touching and vital film about what makes a family in any culture, leaving you with cathartic tears." - Rolling Stone

“‘Based on an actual lie’ is writer-director Lulu Wang’s way of introducing her (actually true) story; a sly title card to qualify the bittersweet dramedy of deception that follows.

"If you want to feel joy, head straight to Yesterday. It’s a heartfelt and humorous tale from Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) and screenwriter Richard Curtis (Love, Actually) about a struggling musician (Himesh Patel) who wakes up in an alternate reality where he’s the only person aware the Beatles ever existed.

"With a softened lens, British documentarian Nick Broomfield adoringly examines a fascinating relationship in a fascinating time that saw Cohen transition from a poet to a world-class songwriter." - Globe & Mail

Return engagement! “The Greek island of Hydra was Eden for a group of 1960s free-love artists and intellectuals who flocked to an idyllic paradise with sun-dappled beaches, cheap living and plentiful mind-expanding drugs to turn on, tune in, drop out.

"Taron Egerton embodies Elton with his pitch-perfect singing and captivating natural presence. With this performance and the overall film, it's hard to imagine a better tribute to such a singular icon." - Paste Magazine

"This fantastical take on musician Elton John is closer to the unconventional Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There than a straightforward chronicle, which is undoubtedly how the unconventional artist at its center wanted it to be. The story reshuffles reality, especially time and facts, and the film is more enjoyable for it.

"Another groundbreaker in horror from Hereditary's Ari Aster who mixes a modern breakup story with pagan rituals in Sweden. If you're looking for the scariest movie ever shot in blinding sunlight, the raw and riveting Midsommar is it." - Rolling Stone

“In the land of the Hårga people, the sun never sets. That makes it a strange spot for a person seeking rest, but for Dani (Florence Pugh), the heroine of Ari Aster’s Midsommar, there aren’t many other options.

"The film is a joy. A deep study of power and poise, and the long, lingering afterglow of a life-changing friendship." - HeyUGuys

“The affair between writers Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West is ripe for a cinematic version. Here are two fiercely intelligent, independent, well-known women sharing their love of language and embarking on a sexual relationship with the full knowledge of their husbands. In the 1920s.

“A sort of seafaring Battle of the Sexes, Maiden is an enlivening bit of documentary filmmaking about an all-female sailing crew that takes on harsh oceanic conditions and even rougher treatment from the sexist international sailing community.

David Lynch's breakthrough film that became an instant cult-classic

“When David Lynch's Eraserhead was released in 1977, another of the '70s 'midnight movies' that won fanatical repeat audiences, it still stood apart. It had a mesmerizing look and soundtrack, bizarre images that rattled, upset and fascinated audiences. And still do.

The NY Cat Film Festival is very much its own animal. Tracie Hotchner, the festival’s founder, regards online pet videos with about as much enthusiasm as a cat might display for a week-old untended litter box. Her festival, now in its second year, features short films, ranging in length from two minutes to nearly an hour. They are made, she said, “with intelligence.”

The Art of Self-Defense could have a lot to say about modern loneliness and toxic masculinity, ideas that writer-director Riley Stearn largely decides to deliver as bone-dry, blunt-force satire.
