We have an exciting weekend at the Princess(es). Friday night sees the launch of the inaugural Kitchener-Waterloo Film Festival. Check their Facebook page for more details on the filmmakers, films and tickets. This is a great local initiative, so come out, support it and see some great movies! Friday, we open the hit documentary THE BIGGEST LITTLE FARM at the Twin, and PETERLOO, Mike Leigh's new film, at the Original. We're celebrating the Original this weekend with one of our most iconic films, the Rocky Horror Picture Show. We are pretty sure we hold the record for longest-running regular RHPS screenings (under one management) in Canada. 34 years of Rocky is pretty fabulous! It's also a LOT of rice. Don't miss our "Sci fi Masters Double Bill," featuring the new documentary, WORLDS OF URSULA K. LE GUIN, followed by the 1990 adaptation of THE HANDMAID'S TALE starring the late Natasha Richardson. Wear red! Two films for the price of one.

“Joyful in all the best ways. It’s completely and utterly beautiful.” -Alex Billington, First Showing

Many of us have fantasized about it; cutting ourselves off from the hustle and bustle of the big city and escaping to a “simpler” life out in the country. But as much as we’d like to get closer to nature, nature is not always the most welcoming host.

"Mike Leigh's most lavish canvas, his most politically charged, his most electric epic... an uncompromising, uncompromised masterpiece: in ravishing moment after ravaging moment" - NPR

Manchester, 1819: a period of famine after the Napoleonic Wars leads to increasing radicalism among working people. Their demands for reform horrify the authorities, leading to the violent suppression of a major demonstration at St Peter’s Field.

"While Joan's early years are absolutely fascinating, it is the refreshing concept of Dench's elderly communist agent that gives this drama its real bite and edge." - Daily Mirror

“A good old-fashioned British spy thriller with a bewitching female heroine (or anti-heroine, if you will) played by the excellent actresses Judi Dench and (as her younger self) Sophie Cookson, Red Joan revisits the incredible real-life spy case of Melita Norwood. It is directed with a strong sense for character by Trevor Nunn, the former director of the Royal Shakespeare Co.

"Bracingly unsentimental and transcendently moving at the same time." - Hollywood Reporter

"Set in 2004 in tiny Kugluktuk, Nunavut – an isolated town with the highest suicide rate in Canada – the movie casts Pride’s Ben Schnetzer as Russ Sheppard, a young white guy who arrives in the Arctic to spend a year teaching high-school English before trading up to a cushy private school in Halifax.

Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron bring out the best in one another in this surprisingly textured (and very funny) rom-com about a journalist who falls for a Presidential hopeful

"In what world would stunning Charlize Theron and schlubby Seth Rogen hook up? The loaded-with-laughs Long Shot offers a comically absurd and sweetly touching answer to that rude question. Theron plays Charlotte Field, the Secretary of State who has her eye on the White House. The 'dumb ass' President of the United States is played by a delicious Bob Odenkirk.

"Gorbachev turns out to be one of the most fascinating political figures of our time. All thanks to Herzog's keen eye." - The Wrap

Werner Herzog and André Singer's riveting documentary, filled with unforgettable archive materials and based on three long interviews, provides incredible access to, arguably, the world's greatest living politician. Now 87 and battling illness, the visionary Mikhail Gorbachev, former General Secretary of the U.S.S.R, has mellowed and slowed down.

“The flame in Ursula K. Le Guin only grew, the closer she came to the end of her life. By the time she was in her 80s, she was spitting out sparks like a campfire. ‘I was not saying what they expected the old lady from Oregon to say,’ Le Guin, who died in 2018 explains in a new documentary about her life, Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin.

June 7 & 8! “Mel Brooks devised his most outrageous comedy with the brilliantly funny Blazing Saddles. Immediately setting the tone with a hilarious parody in the title song (music by John Morris, lyrics by Brooks), sung by Frankie Laine, Brooks swiftly proceeds to satirize every Western ever made.

Don’t let her small stature fool you. Standing at under five feet tall, Dr. Ruth Westheimer is a force. A pioneer in the field of sex therapy, she became a household name in the ’80s and ’90s.
