James W. Cook was born in Sudbury and grew up in Kirkland Lake where he acquired his love of the outdoors. He was always a naturally talented artist by nature and is also a cartoonist, an award-winning pumpkin carver and snow sculptor, and a hand-crafter of fishing tackle.
Cook studied Graphic Design at George Brown College in Toronto and completed his diploma in 1988. He has freelanced as a caricaturist, illustrator, and courtroom artist, and is a self-accomplished fine artist.
James’ deep love of nature is reflected in his Northern Ontario landscapes which he paints mainly in oil on canvas in a style inspired of the Group of Seven, and resembling the Impressionists and the Pointillists.
