Old Man Luedecke

Live On Stage, Friday Feb. 21st, 7:30pm

One man alone on stage with his banjo. A driving rhythm punctuated by the stomping of boots on a wooden floor. Old Man Luedecke’s name and choice of instrument may suggest a world gone by, but the lyrics and melodies that he creates are certainly contemporary. Yet, if you listen carefully, somewhere inside the propulsive grooves, you can still hear the unbroken line that connects Luedecke’s music to the bygone world of Dock Boggs, Ralph Stanley and Pete Seeger.

“The banjo-flailing breath of fresh air out of Nova Scotia” has crafted a sound that’s clearly winning more fans. After touring the globe, winning multiple Juno Awards, and becoming a father to twin girls, Luedecke continues to garner notice for his recognizable voice and unique mix of folk, bluegrass and pop hooks. His penchant for language is on full display in his latest record, 'Tender Is The Night.' Nominated for a Juno, several Nova Scotia Music Awards and long-listed for the Polaris, 'Tender is the Night' (a reference to F. Scott Fitzgerald and John Keats) reveals a storyteller’s heart. Luedecke’s narrative-driven folk songs are crisp, playful, coy and soul-warming. Rich in metaphor, heart and instrumentation, Luedecke’s music is artfully crafted and tenderly performed.
