FILMS SHOWING Friday May 20 to Thursday May 26

This week, exclusive to our newsletter subscribers, we are offering free passes for our 75th Anniversary screening of CITIZEN KANE, presented by film critic, Thom Ernst. This special screening will be held at the Original Princess on Thursday, May 26th at 7:00pm. Thom will introduce the film and talk about why he thinks CITIZEN KANE is the best American movie of all time. You must sign up for the passes. Seating is limited.

The free passes are our way of saying THANK-YOU for your loyalty, especially during this challenging LRT construction! If you are coming to the Princess by car, there are two new, temporary lots at the corner of Bridgeport and Regina (behind the old Canada Post building) providing plenty of parking. Also, in case you're dismayed by the closure of Erb & Caroline, the good news is the King & William intersection has re-opened! Weber, Bridgeport, Regina; Westmount, Park, William; University, Albert, King St. North... these roads lead you to the Princess! Don't let a bit of LRT construction stop you from seeing great movies (and we've got lots of wonderful films on offer!) Just give yourself a few extra minutes in case of surprises!

"It's a fun and funny movie that delivers an honest portrayal of a mother-daughter relationship and the heartache that comes not just from losing someone but from moving on after they're gone." - L.A. Weekly

"Susan Sarandon is a star shining on her highest beams. Only a fool would want to miss those fireworks. So check out 'The Meddler,' in which Sarandon dives into her juiciest role in years as Marnie Minervini, a New Jersey widow who travels to Los Angeles to be near her screenwriter daughter Lori (the ever-amazing Rose Byrne). Why?

"A sweet rock ‘n roll, coming-of-age, 80s nostalgia, teen-romance fairytale that will have you tapping your toes, dabbing your eyes and calling for an encore. Go ahead, stand up and cheer. You won’t have a better time at the movies this year." - Indiewire

"Music and joy. We could all use more of that, and 'Sing Street' has it in abundance. The film from 'Once' writer/director John Carney celebrates eighties music, loners, teen romance, big brothers and pretty much everything in between. Oh, and you will want the soundtrack.

"'Hello, My Name Is Doris' ... uses this funny, outwardly ridiculous character to tell a simple story about a love that rarely speaks its name, including in movies: that of an older woman for a much younger man." - New York Times

"Doris (Sally Field) is the kind of office worker who’s taken for granted. About the only thing her co-workers know about her is her name, and they probably wouldn’t even care to speculate about her life in the world beyond the elevators.

One of the best films of all time. The screenplay by veteran screenwriter, Herman Mankiewicz --"MANK"-- won its only Oscar.

Orson Welles' first feature film -- which he directed, produced, and co-wrote, as well as playing the title role -- proved to be his most important and influential work, a ground-breaking drama loosely based on the life of William Randolph Hearst which is frequently cited as the finest American film ever made.

"A steamy, suspenseful tension-bomb - psychological, sexual, you name it - with potential catastrophe at the periphery of each scene." - Globe & Mail

“French writer/director Alice Winocour's discomforting second feature traps us in the head of a soldier suffering from hearing loss and PTSD, ingeniously illuminating his damaged psyche through music, sound and twitchy, probing camerawork from cinematographer Georges Lechaptois.

★★★★★ "...a masterpiece of black-comic bad taste and a positive carnival of transgression" - The Guardian

“Before the Brothers Grimm perfected the bedtime horror story and psychologists turned fairy tales into Freudian templates, there was Giambattista Basile, a 17th-century Neapolitan poet

"Wildly entertaining take on the life of Miles Davis.""Don Cheadle is magnetic, menacing, charismatic and deep in this tour de force." (Movie Nation)

"Don Cheadle deftly sidesteps the pedestrian potholes of the biographical drama in his debut as writer-director, Miles Ahead, also taking on the role of mercurial 20th century jazz innovator Miles Davis.
