Before you all get too excited, WE STILL DO NOT HAVE A LEASE!
So, what does this mean? It means that we are booking into June, with a plan to print a Film Guide for the Original for June 13 - July 26. Our weekly negotiations with the Huether Hotel appear to be going well and they have encouraged us to promote the fact that we will be staying on; however, we have learned that we are completely vulnerable without a lease (even after 34 years of a good tenancy). Thank you for your continued support and solidarity! We are hopeful but we must keep our powder dry.
The rest of May and early June are starting to fill up on the Original calendar. This Friday we open the very well-reviewed Indian film, SIR, and starting on May 21, look for a few showings of Werner Herzog's new documentary, MEETING GORBACHEV. It was a treat to see the legendary John Cleese in Kitchener recently, so we're keen to revisit his early work in MONTY PYTHON & THE HOLY GRAIL on May 24. We're also keen for another installment of DECONSTRUCTING THE BEATLES (May 23, 26). Scott Freiman examines Side One of Abbey Road this time.
Holding at the Princess this week is Tolkien (recommended!), The Grizzlies (highly recommended!), The Public (want to see) and Amazing Grace (highest recommendation!) In April, when we were given our "eviction" notice for June 1, we promised everyone that we would be screening films that were iconic to the Original, which naturally meant Rocky Horror. After 34 years of regular RHPS screenings, we think our Rocky Horror screenings are the longest-running in Canada. So, on the days that would have been our last, May 31 & June 1, we'll be doing the Time Warp again, and celebrating the Original at the same time. Tickets on sale now! Finally, this just in: limited edition "Beautiful Friendship" t-shirts are on sale at the Twin. There are only 50, so get one while you can!
