"In this respect, Human Flow stuns: It reveals the full breadth of a catastrophe that we might usually think of as piecemeal." - Village Voice

“Human Flow begins with an image of the open sea — vast, neutral, almost calming. Into the frame slips a handful of overloaded zodiacs, bright orange life jackets singling out the children among the passengers who have spent days adrift.

"Visually, it’s spectacular. Conceptually, it’s jaw-dropping to simply consider the effort that went into this.... LOVING VINCENT is itself an imaginative work of art. And what better way than that to honor its subject?” – Washington Post

Oscar-nominated: Best Animated Feature “Loving Vincent is a truly awe-inspiring portrait of the great Dutch artist that boasts the distinction of being “the world’s first fully painted feature film.” That means every one of the nearly 65,000 frames in this labor of love was rendered by hand with oil paints, following a style intended t

Oscar-nominated: Best Supporting Actor. The Magic Inn is a cheap motel in Orlando, Florida, and the people who live there are barely hanging on. These folks, well below the poverty line, struggle from day to day just to make ends meet.

"Mesmerizes as it probes a uniquely female-dominated milieu where passions - both religious, sexual and a combination of the two - run hot under those starched, lily-white coifs and black habits." - Hollywood Reporter

"What makes a young woman choose to be a nun? In Margaret Betts’ revelatory Novitiate, which traces the journey of the starry-eyed Cathleen, it begins in parochial school when a nun explains that the Catholic faith is different from all others because it’s built on the twin pillars of love and sacrifice.

Art, Design & Architecture

“Integral House is an architectural marvel in Toronto built by Jim Stewart, a music lover who made a fortune writing calculus textbooks. Director Joseph Clement's debut film functions as both an inspiring tour of the home and a moving profile of Stewart, who gave architects Brigitte Shim and Howard Sutcliffe only two conditions: that the house have curves and a performance space.

"This enthralling experimental documentary shines a light on the work of donkey sanctuaries by showing the experience from the animal's point of view." - NOW

Willem Dafoe narrates this strange and surprisingly beautiful Hot Docs Festival favourite about a group of donkeys recovering from abuse in a sanctuary. In entrancingly rhythmic prose, Dafoe gives a new perspective on the donkey—deterring us from adding human values to their behaviour with subversive and mind-bending words.
