"I left Ad Astra feeling the best kind of dizzy - my perspective shifted, my footing unfamiliar, the world something imperceptibly new." - Barry Hertz, Globe & Mail

"Brad Pitt is an intergalactic Captain Willard, taking a fraught mission up-river in James Gray’s Ad Astra, an outer-space Apocalypse Now. In place of steaming jungles, this gives us existential chills. Instead of Viet Cong soldiers, it provides man-eating baboons and pirates riding dune-buggies.

"A historical piece that defies expectation and offers both the thrills of battle and a thoughtful critique of war and imperialism." - TheWrap

"A meaty piece of historical drama, ‘The King’ mixes power plays, canny twists and brutal, widescreen medieval battles with a refreshing lack of deference for the Shakespeare plays on which it’s loosely based.

"It captures the life and career of a rock 'n' roll star who never looked back, never apologized, never compromised, virtually never made a wrong move, and made it all seem effortless." - Variety

The new documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, proves aptly titled. Not only does the pic provide many examples of the glorious vocals that made its subject a pop music superstar, it also allows us to once again hear her voice as she narrates her story.

"Bill Nighy is a debonair delight in this charming, elegant, whimsical and unexpectedly moving gem of British comedy-drama mystery." - Daily Mirror

"Sometimes Always Never is a quiet, funny, sad, quirky delight, beautifully written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, and directed with tremendous style by first-timer Carl Hunter. Seek it out if you can. It has a superb central performance by Bill Nighy, and first-class support from, among others, Jenny Agutter, Tim McInnerny and Sam Riley.

"Very loosely inspired by the 2007 arrest of Lisa Nowak, the NASA mission specialist who drove from Houston to Florida to confront a colleague she believed to be her romantic rival, Lucy In The Sky marks a big, bold swing for first-time filmmaker Hawley and his star Natalie Portman.

“CRISPR, a recently discovered molecular cleaver that revolutionized genetic editing, could end genetic diseases as we know them—but it could also usher in a new era of eugenics and designer babies. Human Nature doesn’t shy away from either of these extremes and offers no easy answers to the ethical minefield of tinkering with our DNA.

"The engrossing subject of this documentary, 88-year-old photographer and artist Jay Maisel, is a passionate collector with a special fondness for everyday objects. "Objects are there for you only if you really see them," Maisel explains to filmmaker Stephen Wilkes, who is also his former intern.

"Of course, Scorsese delivers a stunning, gangster flick but The Irishman is so much more, a melancholy eulogy for growing old and losing your humanity. Savour every one of its 209 minutes, you won't regret it." - Empire
