FILMS SHOWING Friday Jan 27 to Thursday Feb 2

The Cannes Lions Ad Fest just seems to get better and better. Every year for the past 30 years, Princess patrons have flocked to the Original to see the 'best of the best' commercials from around the world. 'The Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity' is the Olympics of advertising, and from it, we get to see this enormously entertaining curated collection of the year's award-winners. These are the funniest, sexiest, most clever and creative ads of 2016. It also gives us a unique snapshot of the year and we guarantee: you'll never see ads for treadmills or warehouse furniture here! Scroll to the bottom of the newsletter for a chance to win a pair of passes to '2016 Cannes Lions Ad Fest.'

On one hand, marketing razzle-dazzle; on the other, 'Silence'. This week at the Twin, we open Martin Scorsese's long-awaited dream project and the film that completes his religious trilogy. Some critics have called it a career summation for him; many critics cried "snub!" when the film didn't get the Oscar attention they felt it deserved (it received only one nomination, for Best Cinematography). We were sorry Annette Bening didn't get the Best Actress nomination she so richly deserved for '20th Century Women' but (somewhere) her character, Dorothea, is philosophically shrugging her shoulders saying, "no big deal" (this gem of a film did receive a nomination for Best Original Screenplay). Our other films --Fences, Jackie & Moonlight-- all received plenty of Oscar attention. Tommy Wiseau's The Room, which we play regularly, will never, --in a million years or even in an alt-universe-- ever get any kind of golden statuette... except in the hearts of its many admirers! The Room plays this Thursday.

"The Scorsese masterpiece we’ve been praying for. It's a cry against injustice and a demand for religious tolerance. Astounding!" -Time Out

Oscar-Nominated: Best Cinematography. “Spiritual quandaries — or at least questions of guilt — lace most of Martin Scorsese's films. Yet despite his Catholic upbringing, the director worships primarily at the church of cinema.

"To watch Portman's every move is to not only watch history being recreated, but to also witness history being made." 4/4 stars - Globe & Mail

NOMINATED FOR 3 OSCARS, INCL. BEST ACTRESS. "She stares into the tiny mirror of the Air Force One bathroom, adjusting her pink pillbox hat and equally pink, double-breasted knockoff Chanel suit – a vision of carefully calculated grace, and a template for all First Ladies to follow. It is Nov.

"Watching it is like getting a front-row seat to the beautifully mounted revival of a classic work of American drama." - Slate

Nominated for 4 Oscars, including BEST PICTURE, BEST ACTOR, BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS. Denzel Washington's FENCES tells the story of Troy, a retired pro baseball player turned waste collector struggling to navigate the racial tension of 1950s Pittsburgh, a troubled home life, and a strained relationship with his son, who wants nothing more than to play coll

"A film of rare grace - a tender, compassionate, restrained look at a life lived in the shadows." - Detroit News

Winner of 3 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor & Best Adapted Screenplay.  "If you think art should challenge us, then you will embrace writer-director Barry Jenkins' exquisitely crafted drama Moonlight.

"A simply glorious Annette Bening leads a stellar cast in Mike Mills' semiautobiographical story about a bohemian woman raising a teen in the age of 1970s feminism and punk rock. Note to the Academy, make sure that Best Actress nomination happens." - Rolling Stone

Oscar-nominated for Best Original Screenplay. “Daringly freeform, writer-director Mike Mills’s wise, domestic comedy is first and foremost an attitude: Southern California, loose-limbed, Converse-clad and easing down the road on a skateboard.

No screenings currently scheduled.

"To make a movie so bad it's good you need vision, drive, luck and obsessive vanity. Fortuitously Tommy Wiseau appears to possess all of these qualities, combined with a total lack of acting talent." - The Guardian

Celebrate 20 years of The Room!

“Tommy Wiseau’s The Room may be the first true successor to the Rocky Horror throne.  Wiseau's Johnny is the noblest of boyfriends and most capable of lovers. But none of that satisfies his fiancée Lisa, a wicked Jezebel whose boredom with Johnny manifests in a brazen affair with his best friend.
